The main reason for the disease caused by humidity is the temperature. For example, piglets in nursing houses are prone to diarrhea in summer, which is often because the pig house is damp. This humidity is not only the air, but more seriously the ground and the incubator. If the ground is damp, it needs to absorb the heat in the air during the drying process to lower the temperature of the surrounding environment. The first thing that changes is the net bed that is only 25 to 30 cm from the ground, which is where the piglets lie and move. If the incubator is damp, it will directly affect the piglets in contact with it. In this way, it seems that the temperature in the air is not low, but the effective temperature felt by the piglets is insufficient. Due to the temperature discomfort, the piglets’ digestive function and digestive tract disease resistance are reduced, which causes diarrhea. If pigs enter a humid environment from a dry environment, they will also show obvious discomfort. This phenomenon often occurs during the transfer of pigs.
Now, most of the breeding mode is all-in and all-out. Every time the pigs are transferred, they must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. If the turnover of the pig herd is tight, the pigs often need to be transferred in when the pig house is not dry. Although the net bed is dry, the ground and walls are still not dry; or when the temperature is insufficient, the pigs will be cold, and when the temperature is high, the humidity in the air will be too high. In addition, the pigs themselves have a lot of stress when they transfer to other groups, and the probability of disease will be greater.
Humidity is caused by water. The humidity in the delivery room in summer is often related to sows playing in the water when it is hot, and it is also related to the breeder washing the ground too frequently to cool down. Because there has been no better way to deal with the high temperature problem, the delivery room has been in a humid environment. The humidity in the delivery room in winter is often due to the tight closure. The water vapor in the house cannot be discharged. When it encounters the colder walls and roofs, it will condense into water and flow to the ground again. This cycle repeats, making the house always in a humid state, which is especially common in the cold winter season. At the same time, after cleaning and disinfection, the empty pig house will also be very humid. If you rush to transfer the pigs in without waiting for the pig house to dry, the pigs will live in a humid environment.
